Dr. Zindel Segal to Step Down as Cameron Wilson Chair in Depression Research

FROM: L. TREVOR YOUNG, PROFESSOR AND CHAIR
RE: DR. ZINDEL SEGAL TO STEP DOWN AS CAMERON WILSON CHAIR IN DEPRESSION RESEARCH

I am writing to announce that Dr. Zindel Segal will be stepping down as the Cameron Wilson Chair in Depression Research and Head of the former Mood and Anxiety program effective September 1, 2013.

Dr. Segal was appointed to these positions in September of 2009, and has served the Department outstandingly during his tenure. He has been a member of our department since 1985 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1992 and Full Professor in 1998.

Dr Segal is a renowned leader in the field of psychotherapy, and his work over the last decade in on mindfulness based cognitive behavioural therapy is some of the most influential work in the field of mental health.

While we are saddened to lose such an exemplary leader, we are pleased that Dr. Segal will remain a faculty member in our Department, and plans to continue his involvement in mood disorders research through his role as a Senior Scientist in the Campbell Family Mental health Research Institute at CAMH.

Dr. Segal’s commitment to these leadership roles has been instrumental to the success of the Department, and his dedication, creativity, innovation and enthusiasm throughout his tenure were truly a gift. Please join me in sincerely thanking Dr. Segal for his many years of service, and wishing him continued success in the future as he joins U of T Scarborough campus in the fall as the director of training of their new Graduate Department in Psychological Clinical Science.
